SUMMARY:Addressing Veteran Substance Use: Promoting Recovery Through Collaboration and Compassion- webinar
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \nSubstance use among Veterans and Service Members continues to be a critical behavioral health challenge that intersects with trauma\, pain management\, and the transition to civilian life. Veterans are at significantly higher risk of developing a substance use disorder (SUD) as compared to non-veterans. Veterans with SUD are also more likely to suffer from a mental illness or experience homelessness (Lloyd\, Prakash\, and Terplan\, 2024). Federal\, state and local agencies are continually working to reduce the prevalence of SUD among Service Members\, Veterans and their families (SMVF) This webinar will explore evidence-informed strategies\, emerging trends\, and innovative models that support recovery and resilience among SMVF. Presenters will discuss the importance of coordinated care across systems including the Department of Veterans Affairs\, state health authorities\, and community-based organizations. The presenters will highlight programs that are improving access to effective substance use treatment and long-term recovery support. Join us for this conversation as we bring together leaders from the Department of Veterans Affairs\, the SAFE Project\, and the Oregon Health Authority to share practical tools\, lessons learned\, and resources for those working to address substance use and promote wellness across the military and Veteran continuum of care. This webinar will be followed by a learning community series exploring each of these topics in greater detail. If you are interested\, you can get further information via upcoming issues of our monthly enewsletter\, “Topics in the News” or from our Upcoming Events page. SUMMARY:H.O.P.E Program: A Multi-Stage\, Variable Length of Stay Program Focusing on Recovery From Opiate Addiction
DESCRIPTION:March 12\, 2026 | 10:00AM–noon | Approved for 2 CE: NAADAC/UPITT \n\nRegister Here\n\nINTRODUCTION TO THE HOPE PROGRAM. With the oversight and direction on Thomas Callahan\, Executive Director\, the HOPE program was developed at Cove Forge in 2012. At that time\, we were looking at the AMA rates among young opiate users in our Rehabilitation Program. We collected and studied the data\, that with a certain reliability\, showed that our opiate dependent clients would often first be motivated for treatment\, but then experience a drop in motivation around day 7 to 9 and that we would experience AMA rates of 27%-30% with this group. The HOPE program was developed following a great deal of research on the neurochemical endorphin\, which was identified as being greatly impacted by opiate use. After many discussions\, information sharing and team meetings with Mr. Callahan\, a program was constructed rich in known factors that would have positive impact on this neurochemical

SUMMARY:Understanding The Role of Toxic Shame in Substance Use Disorders- Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\nDescription\nWhat happens when shame becomes chronic or toxic? Individuals with substance use disorders are presenting with unconscious\, untreated toxic shame\, yet this subject is underacknowledged in addiction treatment and the wider field. When we understand the role of shame in addiction\, we see the need for wrap-around care\, systemic and depth approaches – and why we need to include children and family members in treatment. \nPresenter\nJosephine Mansergh-Johnson\, LPCA (CT)\, MBACP (UK)\, MHC-LP (NY)\, is an educator and professional with multiple years of experience addressing trauma and addiction and has trained to treat clients in both the UK and the US. Josie has worked in harm reduction\, integrated treatment\, school-based play therapy\, and private practice\, supporting clients of all ages. Mansergh-Johnson contributes to research\, counselor education\, and presents internationally on topics such as healing sexual trauma and reconceptualizing addiction through the lens of intergenerational shame. Currently\, Mansergh-Johnson is at Resilience Therapy New York\, seeing clients across the lifespan\, in addition to working in child and family services with Hazelden Betty Ford\, teaching graduate-level clinicians at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School\, and consulting. With a passion for awareness\, education\, and innovation\, Mansergh-Johnson empowers others through her belief in the power to change trajectories and foster the potential of the next generation. \nLearning Objectives\n\nParticipants will be able to describe how to identify toxic shame\, how it contributes to returns to use\, co-occurring disorders\, affects relationships\, quality of life and functioning.\nParticipants will be able to summarize toxic shame’s origins.\nParticipants will be able to identify clinical interventions that can help individuals to heal from toxic shame\, what the journey looks like\, and wider implications for working with children and families.\n\nContent Level\nAll Levels. \n\nBeginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition\, treatment method\, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.\nIntermediate level courses provide information that builds on knowledge practitioners with some experience already have. SUMMARY:Improving Care Transitions and Expanding Support for Older Adults with Substance Use Disorders in Skilled Nursing Settings- Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Description\n\nWhen older adults with substance use disorders need post-acute care\, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) are often the next step—yet many are turned away due to stigma\, regulatory confusion\, and barriers to medications for opioid use disorder. This interactive workshop addresses critical practice gaps in care transitions\, interdisciplinary communication\, and SNF readiness to support patients with SUDs. Participants will explore practical strategies for strengthening hospital-to-SNF transitions\, integrating peer support during and after discharge\, and building frontline staff capacity through targeted education. Through case-based discussion and workflow mapping\, teams will leave with concrete tools to reduce fragmentation and improve continuity of care. \nFor more information and registration. \nProgram provided by the AMERSA with support from ORN.
