SUMMARY:HIV and Substance Use Disorders: Implications for Elder Populations- Virtual Training
DESCRIPTION:Register Here \n  \nThis session is part of NAHEWD’s national webinar series Bridging HIV and SUD: Innovations in the Field. The series will highlight various innovative models and approaches to treating substance use disorder (SUD) in people at risk for and living with HIV. This webinar explores the intersection of HIV and substance use disorders (SUD) in older adults. As the population ages\, the prevalence of HIV among older adults has increased\, often compounded by issues related to substance use. This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of the biological\, psychological\, and social factors that contribute to the vulnerability of older adults to HIV and SUD. Participants will examine the unique challenges faced by this demographic\, including stigma\, healthcare access\, and the impact of co-morbidities. Through case studies\, discussions\, and evidence-based research\, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the implications for treatment\, prevention\, and support services tailored to the needs of older adults. • Describe the epidemiology of HIV and substance use disorders in the elderly population. • Identify at least 5 risk factors and vulnerabilities specific to older adults regarding HIV and SUD. • Examine the biological and psychological effects of aging on HIV and substance use. • Evaluate the barriers older adults face in accessing healthcare services for HIV and substance use treatment. • Explore the role of stigma in the experiences of older adults living with HIV and SUD. • Explore resources and community assets in supporting elder populations.
